Swim England has a set of competitive award standards and badges for swimmers to work towards regardless of age. The award scheme is designed to motivate and reward the achievements of swimmers at any age or level. Through the scheme swimmers can collect badges and certificates when they have successfully achieved the required standard in terms of developing new techniques, achieving times or distances. These awards can be achieved in Open competition or Club Events/Championships held at the club.
These times are below and are also posted on our notice boards and on the club training whiteboard.
Types of Award
There are 3 types of award which relate to the length of the swim:
Sprint Award: 25m, 50m & 100m. All strokes including Individual Medley (IM)
Middle Distance Award: 200m. All strokes including IM and 400m Freestyle
Distance Award: 400m IM and 800m and 1500m Freestyle
Times are graded at four levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum* with a separate award for each stroke.
Once the swimmer achieves a time at that level for any stroke, they can claim the round badge that relates to the distance (Sprint, Middle, Distance) and the relevant stroke flash to indicate which stroke they have achieved the award in. They can then collect further flashes as times are achieved for each stroke of that distance.
There is no upper or lower age limit – swimmers of all ages can achieve an award.
*Platinum sprint badges are not awarded for 25m or 50m events.
HOW DO I KNOW I HAVE QUALIFIED FOR AN AWARD?
After a gala and once the results have been processed, you will receive a slip notifying you of your award and date of achievement. Swim England rules must be followed (e.g. events where swimmers were disqualified will not count).
HOW MUCH DO THEY COST?
Badges and certificates are £3 (combined), stroke flashes are £1.50 each. The slip will tell you what you have achieved and how much you need to pay.
WHAT DO I DO WITH MY AWARDS ONCE I HAVE STARTED COLLECTING THEM?
