Felixstowe swam in the first round of the Summer League at Sudbury, together with teams from Sudbury, Leiston and Stowmarket. The Summer League is for swimmers aged 10-14 so many of us were swimming it for the first time. The 10, 12 and 14 year olds swan 50m races whilst the 11 and 13 year olds swam 100m races. There was a relay at the end for each age group, with the 10, 12, and 14 year olds doing a freestyle relay and the 11 and 13 year olds swimming a medley relay.
Each team has two jokers to play, one for girls and one for boys. David chose to play our jokers on Beth swimming the first 50m free race for 10 year olds and Brendan, swimming the last race of the day, which was the 50m Fly for 14 year olds. Beth swam fantastically and won the race to give us double points. Brendan also swam well in a very exciting race and came second.
The girls came a very close 3rd place; only one point behind Stowmarket and two behind Sudbury. The boys also swam well and came 4th but in the relays we did really well and beat all the other teams! When the scores were added up, Felixstowe came 3rd overall. We all enjoyed the competition and want to thank David and Matt for coaching and Lisa, Jane and Tracey for looking after us and getting us ready for our races.
