Session 6 – Suffolk County Champs

It’s a Saturday in February so of course, we were back at Crown Pools today for Session 6 of the County Champs – today we took 13 of our swimmers who were excited about competing in their events, our team included: Bethany, Beth Y, Eloise, Lewis, Abi, Katimai, Maizie, Mia Y, Charlie P, Ryan, Sam, Tom and Joe.  Here’s how they got on….

Female 100m Free

Bethany, Beth Y, Eloise and Mia Y took part in this event.  The girls did amazingly and came away with 2 PBs, 3 County times and a Regional time between them.  Bethany, Beth and Mia Y all made the finals and were placed 7th, 7th and 6th respectively.

Male 100m IM

Tom was our sole male representative in this race, it was a HDW event and he came in a very respectible 7th place with a County time for his efforts – well done Tom.

Female 50m Fly

7 of our swimmers competed in this event; Bethany, Beth Y, Eloise, Abi, Katimai, Maizie and Mia Y.  They did themselves proud and took between them 5 PBs, 4 County times and 1 Regional time.  Beth Y and Eloise made the finals and finished in 3rd and 8th places respectively.  A bronze county medal for a fabulous swim by Beth Y – 32.57 seconds!!

Male 50m Free

In my position as place judge today, this is the event that we all dread – especially the finals.  Trying to write down in order which swimmer came in which position is nigh on impossible! – I tried my best though.  Our swimmers also did their very best with Lewis, Charlie P, Tom, Sam, Ryan and Joe taking part, they managed to achieve between them 2 PBs, 5 County times and 1 Regional time with Lewis blowing it out of the water into the top 10 in GB!! – keep it up Lewis and you’ll be off to the nationals in the summer.  Finalists were Lewis and Tom, Lewis took the Silver medal in his age group by finishing 2nd and Tom was placed 7th in the open age group.

Female 200 Breast

Breaststroke is a lot tougher to swim that it looks, believe me – it’s the least efficient stroke as you are less streamlined in the water, and to get it right and be fast takes a lot of hard work.  Two of our swimmers qualified for this event – Bethany and Beth Y.  Bethany swam to her PB whilst Beth Y smashed the competition to not only gain a PB, County time and Regional qualifying time, she also took the coveted Gold medal for a fantastic 1st place in her age group – what a joy to watch Beth, well done.

What a fabulous afternoon of swimming – a huge well done to everyone you should be very proud of yourselves

Session 7 starts bright and early on Sunday morning – hope to see you there.
