I was invited to take part in the Alton Water 250m for schools swim which was on 17th June.
We had to do two practice sessions, the first one was at Crown Pools, the second one was at Alton Water – we had to practice swimming in a wet suit in the pool at Crown Pools then at Alton Water to check we were ok with wet suits on.
On Saturday 17th June we had to meet at Alton Water – it was a lot busier than I thought it was going to be as there were lots of swimmers taking part in different swims. I was feeling really nervous but excited as well as I hadn’t ever swam in open water before. We all had to register and take part in the warm up which was really good fun, there were lots of people swimming that I knew from school and some from Waves. We then got into the water which was freezing and swam the 250m, I found it a lot easier than I thought it would be and came 9th and swam it in 4.37 which I was really pleased about.
I really enjoyed doing it because it was something completely different than I usually do and next year I would love to swim further.
