On Saturday 29th October, a team of us competed at the first round of the Winter League in Leiston which was a great success – with a whopping 197 points, we managed to come 2nd out of 5 teams! Go Felixstowe Waves!
It was clear that everybody put in 110% effort and were really pushing themselves in both individual and team races: by the half time interval we had P.B.s in 20 out of 22 races. Across the whole event we had 70% P.B.s, 10 wins and 0 disqualifications- which is pretty fantastic for any event, let alone round 1! Both of the races we played the joker on (Beth’s 200m breaststroke and Tom’s 100m back) did very well; and there were a few notable races in the open category: Tom overtook both the Deben and Lowestoft Yellow swimmers to bring the relay team up from last position to 3rd; and Faye overtook the same two teams in the final length of her 100 fly to come in 1st, with a PB. There were so many other superb races from the younger swimmers, it would be a long and hard job to pick out all the individual swims, so a massive well done to you all. Everyone was really supportive of each other, making the atmosphere encouraging and positive (and obviously having our shiny new banner up helped!).
Congratulations to everybody who swam, and a huge thank you to David for coaching; Louise for managing everything on poolside; Caroline and Debbie for officiating and to everybody who came and supported. I think it was a fantastic start to the league – BRING ON ROUND 2!
