Felixstowe were positioned 9th in the Virtual Summer League after the first two rounds which placed us into the B final to take place at Crown Pools on Saturday 1st July 2017. In that final we competed against Newmarket, Deben Yellow, Hadleigh, Halstead, Gt Yarmouth and Lowestoft and Oulton Broad Yellow.
The final was an exciting affair and all our swimmers were keen to get moving. The team were well supported by parents and friends and some of our younger swimmers also came along to cheer on their teammates.
The final started with the only 100m race of the day in the 14/under age group. Mia Yates secured an impressive 2nd place and Fin Cook followed up with a win in the boys race. The remainder of the afternoon encompassed 50m races in all age groups. All of our swimmers swam well and lots secured first places including Eloise Albins (50 Fly 11/under), Kyle McMillan (50 Back 10/under), Henry Todd (50 Back 11/under), Jess Keeble (50 Free 12/under), Frankie Tyler (50 Back 12/under), Fin Cook (100 IM 14/under) and Mia Yates (50 Free 14/under) and last but very much not least Beth Young in all three of her individual races. (50 Free, 50 Back and 50 Breast all in the 11/under age group).
Jokers were played on Beth in the 50 Breast which she won and Nick Rowdon in the 50 Fly where he came second so our points for those races were doubled up.
The final race is without doubt the most exciting of the day. One boy and one girl from each age group swam with the girls starting off at the shallow end while the boys dived in from the deep end. It was close race and Fin brought us home second narrowly behind Newmarket.
We knew that at the half way point we had a narrow lead over a couple of other teams so we waited after the end to see whether we had succeeded in winning the B final. Unfortunately the scores could not be announced for technical reasons so we waited until later for confirmation that we had indeed won the B Final. Congratulations to all involved not just in this round but those swimmers who swam in the previous rounds also.
Thanks also to Donna for managing the team and David for coaching.
