A team of five Felixstowe Waves Masters Swimmers – Geoff Eagles, Suzanne Adams, Gemma Cannon, Adam Spear and Jon Wills competed at the East Region Masters Championships at Newmarket on Sunday 1st Oct. The gala was excellently run and well attended with masters swimmers from all over the East Region. In the individual events Adam won a massive 4 golds and 2 silver medals, Gemma won an impressive 2 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze, Suzanne won 2 bronzes, Geoff won 1 gold and 1 bronze, and Jon won 1 gold and 1 silver medal. The 2 hour swimming club training sessions throughout the summer really paid off preparing the masters for this key meet in their swimming calendar. All the swimmers improved on their times in at least one of their 5 or 6 individual events they swam in, some by a considerable margin!
For the first time Felixstowe Masters were able to enter a relay team, and gained a silver in the combined age 120+ years 4 x50m mixed medley relay. The medals were presented by Stewart Murray (pictured) the new president of East Region ASA. Thank you to coach David, all the swim teachers, committee, and club friends and fellow swimmers for their continued coaching support, teaching and general encouragement of the Felixstowe Waves Masters section. The last weekend in October Suzanne, Gemma, Adam and Jon travel to Sheffield for the National Masters Championships so they are now back to training in earnest, with plenty of hard sets still to swim.

Well done to all of our masters. Please click here if you want to see the individual results. Overall some 17 medals won against 28 events so a medal winning rate of 60%. A fantastic achievement and something for the kids to aim for at next years County and Regional Championships.
