On the weekend of the 26th, 27th and 28th October 2018, 7 swimmers competed at the Masters National Championships held at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield. We got off to a brilliant start on Friday Morning with Gemma coming away with a 27 second PB on the 1500m free and Alice a Season’s Best time which was enough to win a Silver Medal in the 18-24 year age group. As a team we gained 17 PBs throughout the weekend, 6 of which were gained by Jon, nearly one in every event he swam. We also had fun by entering two mixed 120+ relays in both the 4 x 100m freestyle and medley events.
Those that competed were Suzanne Adams, Aprille Branton, Adam Spear, Alice Theobald, Gemma Cannon, Nancy Wright and Jon Wills.
Special mention must go to Nancy and Aprille who were competing in their first nationals competition coming away with 4PBs. As well as to Adam and Suzanne who despite being ill or injured in the lead up still competed and put in some excellent performances gaining 3 PBs.
It was a brilliant social occasion and awe inspiring to watch those that broke British and European records.
The successes of the weekend were despite the fact we determined our hotel as the hotel of horrors! Examples included police knocking on neighbouring hotel rooms, children and adults in the corridors at 1am making a ridiculous amount of noise, showers turning themselves on at 3am, bin-men coming every morning, oh and then there was no working lift, need I tell any more
