On Saturday the 3rd of March four Felixstowe Waves Masters swimmers headed down the A12 to compete at the Essex masters championships in Basildon. It was a very impressive display by Jon Wills, Aprille Branton, Gemma Cannon and Alice Theobald achieving a total of 8 personal best times and 12 medals. This included the four gold haul achieved by Gemma in one session. Felixstowe also managed to finish 10th overall (out of more than 20 clubs) as well as having two ladies finish in the top 20, Alice coming 4th overall and Gemma 12th)
Two swimmers, Aprille and Jon even competed in events they haven’t raced before. Jon was pleased he wasn’t beaten by the 89year old in a fantastic 100m back race. Aprille concerned that her arm might have become detached in a great race and not wanting to do 100m fly again any time soon!
This was a brilliantly organised gala run if anything too swift at times leaving us all very tired by the end of the day. Thanks must go to David and the rest of the coaching staff for making performances like this possible.
