6 swimmers from Felixstowe Waves swimming club qualified to compete at this years East Region Long Course (50m pool) Championships held over the two May bank holiday weekends. Thomas Boyt and Mia Yates represented the club at the Senior Championship which was held at UEA Sportspark in Norwich while Beth Young, Lewis Meadows, Eloise Albins and Francesca Tyler represented the club at the Junior Championship held at Luton Sports Village.
Thomas and Mia, competing in the 17+ and 15 year age groups respectively, came away very proud having achieved personal best times in all of their events. Thomas represented the club in the following events: 50m, 100m and 200m Backstroke, 50m and 100m Butterfly, 50m Breaststroke, 100m Freestyle, 400m Individual Medley. Mia represented Felixstowe in the 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle events.
At the Junior Championship (ages 11 – 14), the club was represented by Beth in the 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke, by Francesca in the 50m and 200m Backstroke, by Lewis in the 50m and 100m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle and by Eloise in 50m Freestyle. Eloise and Francesca had great swims with PBs obtained between them. Lewis obtained PBs in all three events, 4th place in his 100m Backstroke and a very well-deserved Silver medal for 2nd place in his 50m Backstroke event. We are all in awe of Beth who achieved three gold medals for first place in all three of her events – 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke. Eagerly watching the results, we were ecstatic to receive confirmation that Beth’s 50m Breaststroke time has earned her a place in the English National Summer meet which will take place at Ponds Forge in Sheffield. Beth is currently the fastest 50m Breaststroke swimmer in the country for her age group. As a bonus, Beth was presented with a bronze medal for overall top female in the 11/12yrs age group – after only having competed in 3 events.
Felixstowe Waves exited the regionals with a ranking of 15th in the medal table, ahead of some of the larger clubs in our region. We’re very proud of all our swimmers and under the direction of our head coach, David Treliving, we’re looking forward to many more celebrations with our swimmers.
